Initial Post for Philmont

Michael heads to the adventure of his young life beginning on Sunday morning. I will be away for the weekend on a Photo Crop so I wanted to lay out the base for his trip, then I will update the blog each day with a description of what they will be doing that day.

Michael is going with a different troop from his own who have been to Philmont many times.  The Trek they are doing is listed as a challenging trek and will cover approximately 57 miles with the highest elevation being 11, 736 feet. All of the Scouts can make the distance, the real question is how mature are the Scouts? Will they be willing to do their jobs when they are tired and will they be able to get out of camp every morning within an hour? Regardless, they will be seeing some of the most beautiful scenery in the U.S. A common complaint a couple months after returning, is the Scouts did not spend enough time looking at the scenery.  They should treat this trip to Philmont as if it will be their last, therefore, they should take some time viewing the scenery. Two crews are going to Philmont this summer with a total of 15 Scouts and 8 adults. Both crews are doing the same trek.
